GreCon GS 6000

The platform weighing scale measures the weights of solid materials, such as wood based panels. Measurement can be conducted both at standstill and during running production. The weight is measured by specially developed radial supports with integrated weighing cells. Depending on the measuring task and the mechanical construction of the weighing table, weighing cells with an optimum measuring range are used.

BENEFITS AT A GLANCE

    • Measurement while production is running or standing still
    • Elimination of incorrect panel weights, continuous monitoring of the material consumption
    • Can be combined with a thickness gauge to evaluate the raw density
    • Improved quality control

DESIGN OF THE SYSTEM

  • The two measuring chambers made of polished stainless steel are controlled separately and can be used independently. An airflow of 60 l/h with a temperature of 60 °C channels the formaldehyde emitted from the test specimen out of the measuring chamber into gas wash bottles. Before introducing the air into the measuring chambers, it is cleaned with silica gel and filtered to achieve a clean air flow.

According to standard the air flow is fed to four pairs of wash bottles for a period of four hours, i.e. formaldehyde containing air is blown through each pair of wash bottles for one hour. After the forth hour, the air flow is stopped automatically. The sequence to open and close the valves is regulated by the PLC. As measuring temperature and valve configuration can be adapted, a flexible reaction on future changes of the standard is possible. The lines of the test air as well as the valve blocks are heated to avoid any condensation and resulting measuring errors. An automatic leak test issues a warning if a leakage occurs.

The relevant test parameters – as required in EN ISO 12460-3 – can be exported via a USB interface. Furthermore, the sample identification as well as date and time of the test are saved in the history.

MEASURING METHOD

  • The test specimen is introduced with sealed edges into a tempered measuring chamber through which a controlled flow of cleaned and heated air flows. The formaldehyde emitted from the test specimen is transported into wash bottles together with the air flow and absorbed in the distilled water. This part of the test takes four hours in compliance with the standard.

Finally, the formaldehyde concentration in the water of the wash bottles is spectrophotometrically determined by means of the acetylacetone method with 412 nm. It is possible to analyse two test specimens at the same time but independently from each other in the two chambers of the GA 6000.

SOFTWARE FUNCTIONS AND VISUALISATION

  • The visualisation is the core of the software. The recorded measuring data is collected, registered and graphically processed. The easy menu structure which is adapted to all measuring systems makes an intuitive and user-friendly operation possible.

The ergonomically designed software based on the Windows operating system allows an easy handling of the system by the operator. The recorded measured values are processed and displayed in a clearly structured way.

Thanks to the visualisation software in modular design, the system can be adapted to your requirements so that the operation of the plant with different applications is possible. Furthermore the surface of the visualisation software can be compiled according to your needs.

  • The measuring data is issued graphically and numerically:

    • Alert if the tolerances are not observed
    • Display of the position in which the tolerances are not observed
    • Freely configurable display of numerical parameters as information on the production type or statistics.

    •
    • The touch display can be used directly at the production line to display the current measuring results and to check the scale. Furthermore it is possible to enter the default values via the touch display in stand-alone mode.

When using a GreCon thickness gauge, the weight values are transmitted directly to the thickness gauge and made available in the control room. The raw density of the panel is calculated with the relevant measured thickness values.

In case of a scale which is spatially separated from the GreCon thickness gauge, the measured thickness values and the scale values are exactly assigned by an optional panel tracking. Here, it is not important whether the scale is mounted upstream or downstream of the thickness gauge. Panels fed out in between are identified.

    •
  • The system can be adapted optimally to the different requirements via recipes. The structure of the recipe management is very easy. The input of the panel-specific data enables the operator to start the measurement with only few mouse clicks. The start of a measurement and the necessary selection of a recipe make the integration of the measurement system into the process chain possible.

All default values of a production type are saved in the recipe management. Besides the production parameters, as e.g.

    • panel thickness
    • panel width
    • panel length
    • raw density
    • tolerances

also all measuring-specific parameters are filed under the production type. When the production type is loaded again, all necessary parameters are available again.

    • Any panel data is stored in an SQL data base together with the recipe parameters and the measuring results.
    • Display of the position and the scope of the violated tolerances of historical panels.
    • Easy search function via date and time.
    • Export of panel data.
  • Individual time-relevant reports as e.g. the shift and month reports can be generated from the data base.

The graphic presently shown on the screen can be printed out by pressing a button. Furthermore it is possible to print out a numerical report in case of a change of the production types or the shift.

It is possible to generate different reports automatically and store or print them, as for example:

    • shift report
    • type report
    • graphic report

Furthermore it is possible to print out a screen shot of the history for statistical purposes. The data can also be exported from the history management in the standard file format XLS.
